Taweelah Asia Power Company (TAPCO) is a power and water generating company in Abu Dhabi that owns Taweelah B Power and Desalination facility. TAPCO serves as an essential component of the government’s planned installation of power and water assets to meet the upward trajectory of the demands of the Emirate. The site is located approximately 70 kilometers from the city of Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

TAPCO has a 20-year contract with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. The facility has a contracted power capacity of 2,000 MWs and a contracted water capacity of 160 MIGD.

Taweelah United Power Company (TUPC) holds 60% of the company equity while 40% is held by Asia Gulf Power Holding Company (AGPH). TUPC is 90% owned by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and 10% owned by the Department of Energy (DOE). AGPH is wholly owned by Marubeni Corporation (35%), Powertek Berhad/Edra (25%), TAQA O&M Company (25%), and Kyuden International Corporation (15%).

Asia Gulf Power Services Company (AGPS) is the Operating and Maintenance Company to TAPCO, with a 20-year contract to operate the facility since the project’s commercial operation which started last October 30, 2008. AGPS is wholly owned by Marubeni Corporation (35%), Powertek Berhad/Edra (25%), TAQA O&M (25%), and respectively Kyuden International Corporation (15%).

Shared Facilities Company (SFCO)

The Shared Facilities Company (SFCO LLC), located in Al Taweelah Complex, is ¬a limited liability company incorporated under the laws of the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The company, established in 1999, is owned by Taweelah Asia Power Company (56%), Gulf Total Tractebel Power Company (16%), Emirates CMS Power Company (16%), Taweelah RO Desalination Company (6%) and Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (6%).

SFCO LLC is designed to maintain common infrastructure and provide important services for the Taweelah Complex. The infrastructure and services consist primarily of seawater intake which has twelve trash racks and brine outfall used for all water and power generation plants, fire station, and ambulance for emergency response. It is also utilized for the security of the facilities by controlling in/out of the personnel and materials in the complex 24/7.
